Virtual Learning
Virtual learning in many ways can be similar to in-person classes. However, there are certain approaches that will differ from a traditional classroom setting. We are here to help you navigate through these differences in order to produce engaging and relevant virtual lessons.
Backwards Mapping
If you have ever read "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People", by Stephen Covey, you would remember that Habit 2 involves Beginning With the End in Mind®. This same concept applies to any planned lesson. We will assist with the application of this concept for unit planning or curriculum development.
The 5'Es
How should you start the lesson? How can students apply new learning? How can I assess students for understanding? All of the questions can be answered using the 5’Es: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate. We will assist educators with the planning and implementation of this system.
Formative Assessment
Many understand the importance of assessing for student understanding at the end of a lesson, topic, or unit. However, it is just as important to assess students formatively throughout the learning process. We assist with determining the best type of formative assessment to use, collecting data from an assessment, and best practices for using data to make instructional decisions.
Student-Centered Learning
It is a best practice to design lessons that are student-centered allowing students to arrive at answers through exploratory and extensive activities. At times this can be difficult to plan due to the unpredictable nature of this type of lesson. We will help with the planning of student-centered lessons that truly allow students to think critically.
